On November 13, 2024, Naples Police responded to a 911 call in the 1500 block of Curlew Avenue regarding an unresponsive dog.
The dog, Dixie, an approximately 11-week-old female Chihuahua, was determined to be deceased upon officers’ arrival.
The owner, Xavier Reda, reported the dog ran out the back door, slipped through an opening in the stairwell, and fell from the second floor.
A forensic necropsy conducted by the University of Florida Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma. The veterinarian concluded the injuries were not consistent with a fall.
Based on scientific evidence, necropsy findings, scene observations, and multiple interviews, investigators submitted an arrest warrant request to the Office of the State Attorney in April 2025.
An arrest warrant was issued on February 3, 2026, charging Xavier Reda with Aggravated Animal Cruelty. Reda was taken into custody on February 5, 2026, and transported to the Naples Jail Center.
