On May 8, 2026, at approximately 6:27AM, the Naples Police Department’s Traffic Unit was dispatched to investigate a motor vehicle crash between a Toyota Tundra, driven by David Shelton, of Fort Myers, FL, and a sedan driven by the victim. What began as minor vehicle contact between bumpers quickly turned into a road rage incident.
After the initial vehicle contact, Shelton stated he followed the victim in an attempt to document the license plate number. However, during the investigation it was discovered that Shelton drove recklessly by following too closely to the victim’s bumper, driving the wrong way on the roadway, and intentionally reversing his vehicle into the victim’s car as they attempted to get away, causing approximately $5,000 damage. The victim advised he had no knowledge of the minor accident and feared for his life as a result of Shelton’s actions. Later, it was discovered Shelton was knowingly operating his vehicle while his driver’s license was actively suspended.
Following the completion of the investigation, officers placed Shelton under arrest for the offenses listed below:
