On September 2, 2026, at approximately 8:43 AM, Naples Police Department traffic unit motorcycle officers were conducting radar speed enforcement in the 20 MPH school zone located in the 500 block of Goodlette-Frank Road North. Officers observed a silver Lexus traveling approximately 45 MPH through the school zone. A traffic stop was initiated and while waiting for the driver, later identified as Matthew Stiles, to pull over the vehicle, Stiles was observed reaching behind the front right passenger seat in a manner consistent with moving or retrieving an object. During the entirety of the traffic stop, Stiles displayed multiple indicators of impairment. The officers located a case of White Claw alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle, as well as an open, cold, White Claw located in the seat-back pocket of the front right passenger seat.
Stiles refused to perform field sobriety exercises and also later refused to provide a sample of his breath. Ultimately, Stiles was arrested and transported to the Naples Jail Center without incident. Stiles was charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Refusal to Submit to DUI Testing.
