???? SCAM ALERT ????: Phone Number Spoofing Impersonating the Sheriff's Office
The Sublette County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a phone scam that has recently been reported in our area.
In this scam, victims receive repeated phone calls from 307-257-6112. When the number is called back, callers may hear a recorded greeting that sounds similar to the Sublette County Sheriff's Office before the call is forwarded to one of our emergency cell phones. While this may make the call appear legitimate, this phone number is NOT affiliated with the Sublette County Sheriff's Office.
Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated and often use "spoofing" technology to make phone calls appear as though they are coming from a trusted source.
If you receive suspicious calls claiming to be from law enforcement:
Do not provide personal information, banking information, or payment of any kind.
Hang up if you are uncertain about the caller's identity.
Contact the Sublette County Sheriff's Office directly using our published non-emergency number at 307-367-4378 to verify the call.
As always, if something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and verify before providing any information.
