Turn all your clocks back one hour tonight!
It’s time to fall back an hour. Some of us have many smart devices that will accomplish this by themselves, but don’t forget to change clocks around the house back as well as the clock in your car!
Put fresh batteries in your smoke and CO2 alarms
You know how irritating it can be when your alarms inevitably end up running out of battery in the middle of the night? (Usually right when you are comfortable getting great sleep) Avoid the hassle and use this time to replace all your batteries. According to the National Fire Protection Agency, two-thirds of all fire deaths happen in homes where the smoke alarms aren’t working or aren’t installed at all!
Reverse your ceiling fans for the changing temperatures
Most ceiling fans are capable of spinning in two different directions. In the summer, you want the fan’s blade to spin counter-clockwise, which pushes air down. We are entering the winter, it’s better for your fan to spin clockwise, which will pull the cold air up. You may want to dust those fan blades while your there!
Replace your air filters
We live in Wyoming so let’s face it the heater has already been used a few times this year. Use Daylight Saving Time as an opportunity to check your air filters. If you haven’t swapped them out in a while, they’re likely full of dust, which can be a fire hazard! At the very least it will prevent your heater from working harder than it should.
Check for recalls on your vehicle
This is also a good time to double check there are not any outstanding vehicle safety recalls on your vehicles. You only need a few minutes and your vehicles VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) to check. Visit https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls
