(Pinedale, Wyo, September 19, 2023) Joint effort from Sublette County Emergency Responders to assist with locating and extracting injured occupants of truck rollover.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, emergency service agencies including Sublette County Fire, Sublette County EMS, Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, Tip Top Search and Rescue, and Air Idaho, were called to locate and assist an injured occupant of a truck rollover west of Big Piney. The evening before a father and son were hunting on BLM land west of Big Piney when they rolled their truck off a steep hillside, ejecting both occupants and landing in a congested aspen grove. The father was finally able to call for help around 3:00am reporting his son was injured and needed medical help but didn’t know where they were. Dispatch operators were able to ping the father’s cell phone to obtain coordinates and send resources to the location of the wreck. The interoperability of all agencies involved and major physical efforts by first responders were essential in the injured juvenile being packaged into a litter and a mechanical raise was performed with the use of Sublette County Fire’s capstan rope winch. Members of all agencies assisted the litter as it was raised to the top of the 40-yard hill and then carried the injured to the awaiting helicopter for transportation to Idaho Falls for treatment.

This showcases how well all Sublette County Emergency Responders work together to help those in need. At the time of this press release we do not have a status on the injured party but wish him well as he begins his recovery and returns to hunting in our neck of the woods. Photo credit: NG
