Hogan Promoted to Captain of Sherwood Police Department

SHERWOOD, Ark. (Dec. 16, 2020) — Sherwood Police Chief James Bedwell has promoted Ray Hogan as the newest captain of the Sherwood Police Department. Hogan will manage the administrative division, which oversees criminal investigations, training, internal affairs, C.O.P.P.S. (community-oriented policing and problem solving), professional standards, special operations and honor guard. Hogan is filling the role that was vacated by former Captain Jeff Hagar who will officially take over the role of chief after Bedwell’s retirement in January 2021. Hogan’s official appointment is effective as of Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020.

“He’s got 27 years of law enforcement experience — some of it was here and some in his hometown of El Dorado. He’s a chief master sergeant in the Arkansas Air National Guard where he has served for close to 30 years. He went through the F.B.I. National Academy. He’s an all-about rounded person and should carry on well as the captain,” said Bedwell.

Hogan has served with the Sherwood Police Department since June 2001. He has worked his way through the ranks from patrolman to sergeant in 2013 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2016. While with the department, some of Hogan’s most recent achievements are developing the special response team, organizing and equipping a new honor guard team and creating and implementing the field training officer curriculum.

“It is an honor to be promoted to Captain,” Hogan said. “I’m excited for this new chapter in my law enforcement career.”

He previously served for 8 years as an officer for the El Dorado Police Department. Hogan is also a Chief Master Sergeant for the Arkansas Air National Guard 189th Security Forces Squadron at the Little Rock Air Force Base, where he has served for almost 30 years.

Hogan has attended the Community College of the Air Force and earned an associate degree in security administration. He also has education from the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute School of Law Enforcement Supervision and the F.B.I. National Academy.
