Westchester County Police are investigating a fatal collision caused by a wrong-way driver this morning on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Rye Brook.

At 5:08 a.m., County Police received several 911 calls reporting that a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of travel had collided with another car. The location was approximately a half mile south of King Street.

Upon arrival, officers found that one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames. The driver of that car was pronounced deceased at the scene. He has yet to be identified.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was removed from his car and taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he is receiving medical care.

The full circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by Patrol officers, members of the Accident Investigation Team and detectives from the General Investigations Unit.

Traffic continues to be diverted off the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway at Ridge Street. One lane of travel on the southbound side of the parkway also remains closed due to the ongoing investigation.
