Great work in recent days by WCPD and partners to take two illegal handguns off our streets.
In the first instance, Detective Fox, who is assigned to the Real Time Crime Center, teamed up with the Mount Vernon PD Violent Crime Task Force to make three arrests and seize the 9 mm Ruger handgun pictured here. The Tuckahoe Police Department and the WCPD Aviation Unit assisted in tracking the suspects down.
The incident on Friday began following a traffic stop on the exit ramp from the northbound Bronx River Parkway to the eastbound Cross County Parkway. Two of the three suspects in the vehicle jumped out and ran off. One was apprehended quickly but the third suspect was able get away.
An officer canvassing the area determined the suspect had boarded a northbound Metro-North train in Fleetwood. The Aviation Unit spotted the suspect getting off the train at the Crestwood station. He was taken into custody by Tuckahoe PD following a brief foot pursuit.
All three suspects are facing a weapons charge.
The next day, while a multi-agency enforcement detail was under way to combat catalytic converter thefts, PO Russell checked out vehicle stopped on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers. The driver was taken into custody after the officer observed a 9 mm handgun protruding from a compartment on the lower driver’s side door.
PO Russell seized the loaded Glock as well as a pair of plastic knuckles with a stun gun feature. A New Hampshire man was booked on two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, arraigned and remanded to the County Jail.
In addition, catalytic converter parts were found in the suspect’s vehicle.
