SUSPECT’S FRAUD PLAN BACKFIRES SPECTACULARLY

On November 29, 2025, a victim contacted the Naples Police Department to report her credit card had been stolen and used fraudulently. She identified her coworker, 32-year-old Britany Rose Cruz Lopez, as the person she believed was responsible for the crimes.

Detectives from the Naples Police Cyber Crimes Unit began investigating the case. During the investigation, Lopez called the Naples Police Department and falsely impersonated the victim, claiming she no longer wished to pursue charges. Detectives reached out to the victim, who confirmed she did not make the call and wanted us to continue to pursue the investigation.

On December 3, 2025, Detectives met with Lopez in person at a coffee shop, where she falsely presented herself as the victim. She completed a sworn statement using the victim’s name and then signed the victim’s name, under oath, in an effort to have the case closed. Detectives confronted her about the deception, and she admitted to having stolen the victim’s credit card, made unauthorized purchases, and impersonated the victim in an attempt to avoid prosecution.

Britany Rose Cruz Lopez, a convicted felon and resident of unincorporated Collier County, was taken into custody and transported to the CCSO Jail. Ms. Lopez was charged with: Theft of a Credit Card, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card under $100, False Report to a Law Enforcement Officer, Criminal Use of Personal Identification Information.
