On October 13, 2025, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers responded to the 11th Avenue South Beach regarding a reported battery. The victim stated that an unknown male approached her on the beach and touched her without consent after she asked him to stop. The suspect gave her his phone number and instructed her to meet him the following day.

Following an investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 44-year-old Douglas Reid Pederson of Minnesota. Surveillance footage and witness statements supported the victim’s account. The video showed Pederson being picked up shortly after the incident in a vehicle driven by his wife, with their two children in the car. Pederson was located and positively identified by the victim during the follow-up investigation.

On October 14, 2025, Douglas Reid Pederson was arrested and charged with battery. It should be noted that Pederson has a prior conviction for indecent exposure in Minnesota.
