Scammers are "spoofing" legitimate phone numbers to pose as local law enforcement agencies, in an attempt to scam you out of money and gift cards.
In the latest version, a person received a call from what looked to be our non-emergency # and an individual claiming to be Robert Montagano (who happens to be one of our Assistant Chiefs) with the Naples Police Security Division (there is no such division).

The scammer did not ask for any money and already knew the person's information (Name, Phone Number, Address, Email). The scammer insisted they needed to talk in person and asked questions like, "When will you be home?" "When are you normally awake?" and "When do you normally work?" Luckily, the person was smart enough to hang up and not answer the multiple other phone calls received from the same number.
Scammers may also inform you there is a warrant for your arrest and that you must pay to avoid being arrested.
When in doubt, always hang up and call the agency directly. Remember, it’s us against the scammers, not us against each other! It can happen to anyone, so let's spread the word to stop these fraudsters.
