ARREST: PERSON IN POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (FENTANYL)

June 4th, 2024 5:13 pm

On Sunday June 2, 2024, at approximately 2:00am, Naples Police Officers located a male sleeping on outside patio furniture in the 400 block of 5th Avenue South. The male, who was fast asleep on one of the display couches, was identified as Gregory Lacefield (36 years of age). Next to Lacefield was an electric bicycle. Officers checked the serial number of the electric bicycle and learned it was reported stolen out of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction earlier this year (further investigation ongoing). Lacefield was taken into custody without incident once officers were able to awaken him. A search of Lacefield’s person yielded a clear zip-lock style baggie with a white powder within that field tested positive for the presence of fentanyl.

Lacefield was transported to the Naples Jail Center where he was charged with Violation City Ordinance Sec. 22-34 - Habitation of Undeveloped Property and F.S. 893.13(6)A - Person in Actual or Constructive Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl).

Fentanyl, up to 50 times more potent than heroin, is extremely dangerous to law enforcement and anyone else who may come into contact with it. As a result, it represents an unusual hazard for law enforcement. To learn more about fentanyl, check out the Collier County Sheriff's Office Laced and Lethal webpage.
