CAMBIER PARK GUN ARREST

August 13th, 2024 12:02 pm

On the night of August 8, 2024, while on routine patrol in the vicinity of Cambier Park, a night shift officer noticed a red Dodge truck parked adjacent to the park. Recognizing that the truck had not been there earlier and that the park was closed, he proceeded to walk the park to investigate.

As the officer continued his patrol on foot through the park, he encountered a large group of individuals trespassing in the park after park hours. His presence prompted one of the individuals to flee into nearby shrubbery in an attempt to conceal an item. Undeterred, the officer took immediate action, issuing verbal commands to the group. Although several suspects fled on foot, the officer's quick thinking and strategic response allowed him to apprehend the suspect that had concealed the items moments earlier.

The officer called for backup and continued his investigation. His persistence paid off when he discovered two handguns concealed in the bushes. The serial numbers for both firearms had been physical removed. Further investigation led to a confession from 18-year-old suspect identified as Christian Gomez-Hernandez, who admitted ownership of the firearms. Gomez-Hernandez was subsequently arrested for two counts of altering or removing serial numbers on firearms and two counts of possession of a firearm or concealed weapon by a delinquent felon.
